Social programme

The ACM conference will include several social programmes for you to meet in relaxed atmosphere, see the sights in and around Helsinki, and to become acquainted with the ACM colleagues. If not otherwise noted, these events are included in the conference fee.

Icebreaker

Sunday 29th June, starting from 16:00

We will host an icebreaker party at the Helsinki Observatory building in the downtown. You can join at any suitable time between 16 and 20 o'clock. New potatoes, strawberries, and other light food and drinks will be served. The band Rinne Rockers will play contemporary local and international favourites in the observatory garden at 17:00-17:30 and 19:00-19:30. No fee is collected for the party, but we would appreciate if you could indicate your interest in attending the party through the following form: https://elomake.helsinki.fi/lomakkeet/52220/lomake.html so we could reserve the correct amount of food. For those wishing to attend, there will be guided tours of the observatory every hour.

Excursions

Wednesday 2nd July, 13:00

Wednesday afternoon is reserved for conference excursions. We offer a variety of interesting attractions in Helsinki area. You should tentatively select an excursion that would interest you the most as you register to the conference. This is only to allow us to estimate the number of participants to different events. The actual registration to excursion will be done during the conference, and you are free to change your initial choise. Excursions are included in the conference fee.

Walking tour in the Nuuksio national park

This excursion is directed to the Nuuksio national park, the largest national forest in Southern Finland. Join the walk for fresh air, pine forest, deep lakes and rugged rocks! There will be a bus transport to Nuuksio and back from the conference site, and a guided walk in the forest. A snack prepared outdoors will be served. The tour including the bus transport will last about 3 hours.

Archipelago cruise

Experience the Helsinki archipelago on a boat. See the old military islands and the city skyline from a different perspective. Cruise will depart from the Helsinki Market Square, 500 m from the conference site, and last about 2 hours. Refreshements will be served on the boat.

Trip to the city of Porvoo

Visit Porvoo, the second-oldest town in Finland, featuring a picturesque old town of wooden buildings surviving from the late 18th and early 19th century. An iron-age riverside hill fort is also located only some hundreds of meters away. Some guidance to the history of Porvoo will be provided and light snack is served. There is a bus transport to Porvoo and back from the conference site. The excursion will last about 3 hours.

Trip to Suomenlinna fortress

Take a ferry trip to the old military fortress of Suomenlinna, explore the tunnels and hear the story behind Helsinki's rise to glory. Guided tour will leave from the Helsinki Market Square, 500 m from the conference site, and last about 2.5 hours.

Guided walking tour in Helsinki

A guided walking tour to the history and architecture of Helsinki, and to contemporary Finnish design. The tour will visit retro-inspired boutiques and new design stores in downtown Helsinki, especially in the Punavuori district. A visit to the Desing Forum Finland or the Design museum will be included, together with refreshements. The tour will last around 2.5 hours.

ACM banquet dinner

Wednesday 2nd July, 19:00

The banquet dinner of the conference is organized at the Finlandia Hall (Mannerheimintie 13 E, see the ACM map). Dinner is accompanied with music and speeches.
